Living in The Moment Will Transform Your Workday

What’s the first thought that pops into your head when you wake up? Mine is either “thank you for today” or “why is it still cold outside!?”. (I’m so over winter) Unfortunately many people begin their days with total aggravation for the imagined workday that lies ahead. Did you know that having unpleasant thoughts upon waking can set your whole day into a downward spiral?

Wondering how you can transform your workday?

Living in the moment is another tool that we can use to stay grounded and focused. Matter of fact one of the first spiritual/health and wellness books that I read touched on the topic of being present. The name of the book is Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer. Before reading the book I would constantly become lost in what seemed like a never ending stream of dialogue in my head. Dialogue about everything! And if it wasn’t dialogue it was a song that I hated! Why do the bad songs stick in our heads so long!? It wasn’t until after I read the book that I realized I had been existing far outside of the present moment, probably my whole life. More importantly it caused me to take action.

One day while sitting in my cubicle (bored) I declared to always make a conscious effort to live in the present moment. At the time I wasn’t even 100% sure what the meant but I knew it had to be done. I grabbed a sticky note from my desk and frantically begin writing down all the thoughts in my mind. I just felt like writing them down would help free my mind. My results were minimal, however it did help me to see how nonsensical my thoughts were at times. The whole exercise made me laugh. I was slowly becoming the observer…

We walk around all day on auto pilot. This is because our conscious minds are so busy analyzing our thoughts. Mean  while our subconscious minds are in control doing the same things over and over. Why do you think your so bored with work after a few years. We shouldn’t live our lives like this!

Living in the moment will transform your work day no matter how boring and tedious in is. Here are a few tips below

Start the day in gratitude: Begin each day listing the things that you are grateful for. I keep a gratitude notebook on my nightstand that I write in daily. This may take a while to get the hang of, but it’ll be like second nature after you’ve done it for a while. Starting each day like this will make you feel happy and energized!

Stop the voice in your head: Contrary to popular belief, a busy mind is not a good thing. Learning how to quiet the mind and be present is a skill. The first step is to notice your thoughts. You are not the voice in your head, learn how to tell the difference. The next step is to watch your thoughts as they come and go without giving attention to them. This process is easier than it sounds, and it is explained in detail in the book mentioned above.

Taking the time to focus on your work will give you less time to focus on the things that you don’t like about your work. Therefore making your entire work experience more pleasant.

Don’t worry be happy: Remember that you have the power to change what you do anytime you want. So stop worrying, try focusing on being happy at work instead. You’ll move on when you’re ready.

What do you think?
